Dr. Rita Starritt, M.D.
Dr. Starritt attended medical school at the University of Texas, graduating in the top five percent of her class and a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. She completed her residency at the University of Colorado and was invited in her first year of residency to do a presentation for a national meeting of her peers. In 1996 after completing her Board Certification in Internal Medicine, Dr. Starritt opened a private practice at Rose Medical Center. During her 15 years of private practice, she held a teaching position as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of Colorado and frequently sponsored medical students in her practice. Dr. Starritt has also been actively involved in clinical research and served as a principal investigator for a variety of subjects ranging from asthma to diabetes and hypertension. She was a member of the Governor’s Council for Physical Fitness for many years and is a current member of the American Medical Association.
In 2011 Dr. Starritt decided to close her private practice to spend more time with her children. In addition, she had found that patients were unhappy with the treatments that traditional medicine offered. She had worked closely with alternative practitioners for the past 10 years of private practice and thought that the patients who used alternative and western medicine together were overall healthier - - that she could help more patients by focusing on the “whole patient” as opposed to continuing solely in the private practice model. She had been studying integrative medicine for years and decided that she could benefit more patients with integrative medicine and therapy than with traditional methods alone. She currently works with integrative medicine, as well as in an intensive care setting in a hospital. By doing both, she feels she can keep abreast of the most current developments in both areas of medicine.
In her free time Dr. Starritt enjoys running, biking, reading, and traveling in the United States as well as abroad. She is also interested in research and in how technology can help patients in managing their own health care in conjunction with their physicians.
